I really want to start something with this guy but i leave for college in 2 months! help!?

There is this guy at my job that i like. He likes me too, i heard it from one of my coworkers and they told me he was just too shy to tell me. Maybe b/c he is scared that i wont like him back. (b/c when i like someone i tend to subtly show it so he might not know). I want to drop hints to him that i like him but i refuse to go up to him first and ask him out. So what i want to know is should i drop hints to him, or go to the mutual friend and have him set us up, or just forget about it b/c i leave for college in 2 months. I'm going like 135 miles away so i might be home some weekends but is it crazy to start something with someone and then leave? :-(
