Skin lump on my shin, flesh colored but odd texture.?

I noticed a small flesh colored pimple sized bump on my shin about a month ago, it has not gone away so I cut into it to see if it was filled with a fluid. It wasn`t filled with anything, but the tissue felt strange almost grainy (I wasn`t sure if that was the hair follicles). In any event, I ended up cutting it out since I couldn`t justify leaving it there. Was that cancer or scar tissue... any ideas? Obviously seeing a dermatologist is a bit moot until it heals.
